Entry-Exit System (EES)

The new Entry-Exit System (EES) has been active since October 12, 2025 in all European Union countries. The system covers only non-EU/EEA nationals traveling to or from the Schengen area for short-term stays (up to 90 days out of 180).

As of October 20, 2025, EES is also operational at Cuneo Airport, in line with the national implementation plan.

What it is and how it works

EES replaces manual stamps in the passport with an electronic record of entry and exit data.

During border control, they will be collected:

  • travel document data,
  • entry and exit dates,
  • Biometric data (facial image and fingerprints).

The system aims to make checks faster, safer and more transparent, preventing identity fraud and facilitating the management of flows at the EU’s external borders.

What changes for travelers

  • Checks will be made through electronic devices.
  • A valid passport must be presented.
  • It is recommended to allow a few extra minutes for monitoring, especially in the first few months of activation.
